Passover to Communion

Jan 11, 2026    Pastor John Guillory

This powerful teaching takes us deep into the heart of communion, revealing it as far more than a ritual—it's a sacred act of remembrance and spiritual fellowship with Christ. We journey through the original Passover in Exodus, where God commanded His people to mark their doorposts with the blood of a spotless lamb, causing the death angel to pass over their homes. Fast forward 1,500 years to the Last Supper, where Jesus becomes that perfect, spotless Lamb, establishing a new covenant through His broken body and shed blood. The connection is breathtaking: just as the blood on the doorposts saved the Israelites from physical death, Christ's blood saves us from eternal separation from God. What makes this teaching particularly compelling is the emphasis on applying the blood—not just understanding it intellectually, but actively claiming Christ's protection over our lives, our homes, and our church. We're reminded that Isaiah prophesied 700 years before Christ that by His stripes we were healed—past tense, already accomplished. This isn't just about spiritual salvation; it encompasses healing for our bodies, minds, and emotions. The call to surrender in 2026 challenges us to move beyond casual Christianity into genuine discipleship, where we don't just accept what Jesus did, but actively give Him our lives in return. It's a reminder that communion is our moment to proclaim Christ's death until He returns, and to recommit ourselves daily to remembering His sacrifice and living worthy of it.
