Living a Surrendered Life

Dec 28, 2025    Pastor John Guillory

This powerful teaching from 2 Peter chapter 3 confronts us with an urgent question: if Jesus could return at any moment, shouldn't our lives reflect our readiness to meet Him? The message challenges us to examine whether we're truly living surrendered lives or merely playing the role of part-time Christians. Drawing from scriptures like Matthew 16:24 where Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and take up our cross, and Galatians 2:20 where Paul declares 'it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me,' we're reminded that authentic Christianity requires complete surrender. The sermon emphasizes that since everything on this earth will eventually burn up—as Peter describes the elements melting with fervent heat—our focus should be on holy conduct and godliness rather than accumulating earthly things. We're called to evaluate where God truly ranks in our priorities: Is He number one, or does He come after our careers, hobbies, and personal ambitions? The truth is sobering yet liberating: God can only move in the areas of our lives that we're willing to surrender to Him. This isn't about religious performance or checking boxes; it's about developing an authentic, daily relationship with our Heavenly Father that transforms how we treat others, handle challenges, and spend our time. The question isn't whether we'll face judgment, but whether we're ready for it.
